Mikhail Andrella

Andrella, Mikhail

(also M. Orosvigovskii). Born around 1637–39 in the village of Rosvigovo, now a suburb of Mukachevo; died 1710 in the village of Iza, now Khust Raion, Transcarpathia. Ukrainian writer.

Andrella studied in Vienna, Bratislava, and other cities. He was a Uniate priest but later converted to Orthodoxy. His main works are Logos and Protection for Every Faithful Man, which are polemical pamphlets exposing the pope, the Jesuits, and the Uniate Church. He advocated the unification of Transcarpathia with the Orthodox Ukrainian and Russian people. He was subjected to persecution.
