Industry includes the production of ceramics (primarily tile), hand weaving, and the primary processing of coffee and other agricultural raw materials. There is a chemical fertilizer plant in the city. Most of India’s coffee intended for export is shipped through Mangalore, as are cashew nuts, tea, pepper, and sandal wood.
