Mikhail Fedorovich Nesturkh

Nesturkh, Mikhail Fedorovich

Born Feb. 11 (23), 1895, in Pskov. Soviet anthropologist and primatologist. Doctor of biological sciences (1962); professor (1967).

Nesturkh graduated from the natural science section of the faculty of physics and mathematics of the Novorossiia University in Odessa in 1916. In 1928 he began working at the Scientific Research Institute of Anthropology at Moscow State University and the university’s anthropological museum and subdepartment of anthropology. His principal works have been devoted to the ecology, taxonomy, and paleontology of primates, to the origin of man, and to race science. Nesturkh has been awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and various medals.
