Mikhailin, Vladimir Vasilevich

Born July 12 (25), 1915, in Moscow. Soviet military commander; admiral (1969). Member of the CPSU since 1941.

Mikhailin graduated from the M. V. Frunze Higher Naval College in 1941. In the Great Patriotic War (1941–45) he served in the Northern Fleet as commander of communications and a combat unit of navigators and as assistant commander and then commander of a ship; from 1945 to 1948 he served on ships of the Pacific Ocean Fleet. He graduated from the Naval Academy in 1951 and from the Academy of the General Staff in 1960. He was commander of the cruisers Admiral Kornilov and Kuibyshev from 1955 to 1958 and commander of large ship units of the Black Sea Fleet from 1960 to 1963. Mikhailin served from 1963 to 1967 as deputy commander and from 1967 to 1975 as commander of the Baltic Fleet. In 1975 he was appointed deputy commander in chief of the navy for naval colleges. He was a deputy to the eighth convocation of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. Mikhailin has been awarded the Order of Lenin, three Orders of the Red Banner, the Order of the Patriotic War First Class, the Order of the Red Star, and various medals. [16–1020–5; updated]
