Serdiukov, Mikhail Ivanovich

 

Born 1677; died 1754. Russian hydraulic engineer.

In 1719, Serdiukov proposed a plan, which was approved by Peter I, for a fundamental improvement of navigation on the Vyshnii Volochek Waterway System. In accordance with the plan, he constructed in the years 1719–22 a dam on the Shlina River and canals from the Shlina to Lake Kliuchino and from the Shlina to the Tsna River. Between 1736 and 1738 he constructed a dam on the Zavodskoe Watershed Reservoir. In the period 1741-52, Serdiukov carried out work on improving the channel of the Tvertsa River and devised a method for improving navigation across the rapids of Borovichi on the Msta River.
