Mikhail Kargapolov

Kargapolov, Mikhail Ivanovich

 

Born Nov. 9, 1928, in the village of Rusakova, Kurgan Oblast. Soviet mathematician. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1966). Member of the CPSU since 1965.

Kargapolov graduated from the Urals University (Sverdlovsk) in 1951 and since 1964 has been a professor at the University of Novosibirsk. His principal works, which pertain to algebra, are primarily devoted to the study of the properties of infinite discrete groups, including generalized solvable and orderable groups, as well as to the study of algorithmic problems. He has been awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and various medals.
