Mudflow Channel

Mudflow Channel

a hydraulic-engineering installation for diverting mudflows from certain objects and areas and for conveying mudflows across canals and transportation and communication lines in areas where the risk of mudflows is great. The channel is a canal or aqueduct with a funnel-shaped approach. It is bounded by banks of earth and reinforced at both ends against erosion by, in most cases, concrete slabs. To avoid erosion and breakthrough of the mudflow beneath the channel, the reinforced sections are constructed with deep cutoffwalls.
