Kleimenov, Ivan Terent’evich
Born Apr. 13, 1898, in the village of Staraia Surava, district of Usman’ (present-day Lipetsk Oblast); died in 1938. One of the organizers and directors of rocket technology in the USSR. Member of the Communist Party (1919).
Kleimenov graduated from the N. E. Zhukovskii Air Force Academy in 1928. Between 1932 and 1933 he was the head of the Gas Dynamics Laboratory, and from 1933 to 1937 he was the head of the Jet Propulsion Institute. A crater on the dark side of the moon is named after him.
