Klerman, Gerald Lawrence

(1928–92) psychiatrist; born in New York City. Between 1956–85 he held various academic appointments at Harvard, Tufts, and Cornell. An authority on depression and schizophrenia, he did research on the effectiveness of combining drug treatment and psychotherapy (1960s–92) and conducted a study that found depression increasing and occurring earlier among people born since 1935.
