Lena-Angara Plateau

a plateau in southern Irkutsk Oblast, between the Angara and Kirenga rivers (the Kirenga is a tributary of the Lena). Length, 600 km; width, up to 380 km. From south to north elevations decline from 1,100 m to 500 m (maximum elevation, 1,464 m). It is composed of carbonaceousterrigenous rock of the Cambrian and Ordovician. Depth of dissection by river valleys varies from 200 m to 600 m. Summits are flat and capped with Ordovician limestone. The plateau is covered by taiga consisting of larch, cedar, spruce, and pine. Mineral resources include iron and copper ores, common salt, and building materials.
