Mikhail Milonov

Milonov, Mikhail Vasil’evich

 

Born Mar 5 (16), 1792, in Pridonskii Kliuch, Zadonskii District, in present-day Lipetsk Oblast; died Oct. 17 (29), 1821, in St. Petersburg. Russian poet.

Milonov, the son of a minor nobleman, graduated from Moscow University in 1809. His work was first published in 1807. The author of epistles in verse, elegies, and patriotic verses, he was best known for his satires, which anticipated the civic poetry of the Decembrists. His satire To Rubellius (1810) was a sharp attack on A. A. Arakcheev.
