Mueller maneuver

Mueller maneuver

(mū′lĕr) Inspiration against a blocked upper airway, a maneuver that generates negative pressure within the thorax. The Mueller maneuver can be performed voluntarily, by trying to suck air into the lungs with the mouth closed and the nostrils pinched. It also occurs spontaneously during obstructive sleep apnea when a person with an occluded airway struggles to breathe.
