Lenino


Lenino

 

(formerly Sem’ Kolodezei), an urban-type settlement; the center of Lenino Raion, Crimean Oblast, Ukrainian SSR. Lenino has a railroad station (Sem’ Kolodezei) on the Kerch’-Vladislavovka line. The settlement has a winery, a dairy plant, and other enterprises of local importance.

a village in Gorki Raion, Mogilev Oblast, Byelorussian SSR. Near Lenino on Oct. 12–13, 1943, the Tadeusz Kościuszko 1st Polish Division and the Westerplatte Heroes 1st Tank Regiment, which had been formed in the USSR by the Union of Polish Patriots and which operated as part of the Thirty-third Army, first engaged the fascist German troops. In the Polish People’s Republic, October 12 is celebrated as Dzień Wojska Polskiego (Polish Army Day).
