neothalamus

neothalamus

[ne″o-thal´ah-mus] the part of the thalamus connected to the neopallium.

ne·o·thal·a·mus

(nē'ō-thal'ă-mŭs), The portion of the thalamus projecting to the neocortex.

neothalamus

An obsolete term for what was regarded as the phylogenically newest component of the thalamus (the dorso- and ventrolateral nuclei). Becauses reciprocal connections are now known to exist between the former neothalamus and the former palleothalamus (the midline or medial nuclei), both terms have fallen into disfavour.

ne·o·thal·a·mus
