Los Glaciares

 

a national park in southern Argentina (Santa Cruz Province), on the border with Chile. Situated high in the southern Patagonian Andes, it includes several preserves. Area, 600,000 hectares. The park was established in 1937 for the preservation of mountain landscapes (with neve basins and glaciers descending into lakes), forests of antarctic beech, and areas of steppe vegetation. Among the animals living in Los Glaciares are pudu, Hippocamelus bisulcus, and guanacos; birds include the rhea and condor.
