Knabenschiessen

Knabenschiessen

Second weekend in SeptemberThe Knabenschiessen is a marksmanship contest in Zurich, Switzerland, for boys and girls aged 12 to 17. The custom dates to the 17th century when all boys were required to practice their shooting during summer holidays. The final rifle match was a kind of examination. Today, the rifles used are like those that are issued in the army. Prizes are awarded, and the winner is named King, or Queen, of the Marksmen. A huge amusement park is set up for the Knabenschiessen, and there is a parade and market.
