Mann, A. T.

A. T. “Tad” Mann was born August 18, 1943, in Auburn, New York. He graduated from Cornell University in 1966 with an architecture degree and worked as a professional architect for a time. He is a member of the Association for Astrological Networkers (AFAN) and the Author’s Guild. He lives and works in Hudson, New York, and has a daughter, the woven textile artist Ptolemy Mann.

Mann applied the concept of biological time and the philosophical system of George Gurdjieff, Pyotr Ouspensky, and Rodney Collin to astrology. The resultant logarithmic time scale grades the periphery of the horoscope from the ninth house cusp (conception point) to the ascendant (birth) to the ninth cusp (symbolic death point). During the three periods of gestation, childhood, and maturity, the physical, emotional, and mental bodies are created. There is a fourth period, the transcendent octave, which represents the higher level of gestation influences. The Round Art of Astrology (1979 and 2003) first described these ideas with its unique graphic language, Life Time Astrology (1984) presented it as a fully functional system for astrologers and therapists, and A New Vision of Astrology (2002) includes its revolutionary perceptions.

Mann’s life time astrology system is used by astrologers, psychologists, and healers in Europe, the United States, Australia, and the Far East. It is unique as a synthesis of biology, physics, psychology, and astrology. This combination has led to the development of a unique method of treatment at a distance through the horoscope, called Astro*Radionics, as described in Astrology and the Art of Healing (1987). Mann applied the principle of logarithmic time scales to the historical process and mechanism of reincarnation in The Divine Plot: Astrology and Reincarnation (1986) and The Elements of Reincarnation (1995). Astrology is used as an organizing device for understanding the universe, from the subatomic level to the astronomical. The Divine Life: Astrology and Reincarnation (2002) combines Life Time Astrology and The Divine Plot.

The application of astrology to tarot led to the development and painting of The Mandala Astrological Tarot in 1987. Each card is related to a planet, sign, element, or decanate and is composed of a circular mandala with Eastern, medieval, and symbolic images.

Mann’s Sacred Architecture (1992) describes the importance of astronomical/astrological, elemental, mythic, and symbolic organizational structures and images in architecture, from megalithic times to the Renaissance, and includes a critique of modern architecture. Sacred Sexuality (1995), written with Jane Lyle, shows sacred sexuality as a spiritual dynamic and path for integrating heaven and earth in relationships. A new book, Reflections on the Sacred Garden will apply these ideas to the garden as a symbol of the psyche in nature.

Mann has taught design at the International Centre for Creativity, Innovation, and Sustainability (ICIS) in Copenhagen and other universities such as Manchester Metropolitan University in the U.K. and the Denmark Design School in Copenhagen. He has lectured extensively at info-eco design events like the “Doors of Perception” in Amsterdam and “Making Sacred Places” at the University of Cincinnati. He is a graphic designer, web site designer, painter, and Feng Shui consultant.
