Oldenburg, Richard

Oldenburg, Richard (Erik)

(1933– ) museum director; born in Stockholm, Sweden (brother of Claes Oldenburg). His family emigrated to America (1936), and he studied at Harvard (B.A. 1954). He was manager of the design department for Doubleday & Company, N.Y.C. (1958–61), and was an editor for Macmillan Company (1961–69). He became director of publishing for the Museum of Modern Art (1969–72), and then the director of the museum (1972).
