Leonid Efimovich Kornianu

Kornianu, Leonid Efimovich

 

Born Jan. 1, 1909, in the village of Koshnitsa, now in Dubossary Raion; died Nov. 26, 1957, in Kishinev. Soviet Moldavian writer. Member of the CPSU from 1945.

Kornianu made his literary debut in 1927. He is the author of the poetry collections Various Poems (1930), Elans (1933), Songs and Poems (1939), From the Dnestr Valley (1947), and Selected Works (1958). The main theme of Kornianu’s work is socialist changes in Moldavia. His plays include Mariika’s Happiness (with E. Gerken, staged 1951), Source of Friendship (1952-54), and Shadow of Love (1958). He collected Moldavian folklore, and its influence is visible in his work.
