Leonid Kubetskii

Kubetskii, Leonid Aleksandrovich

Born July 25, 1906, in Tsarskoe Selo, now the city of Pushkin; died Sept. 22, 1959, in Moscow. Soviet physicist and inventor.

Kubetskii graduated from the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute in 1931. He worked at the Leningrad Physicotechnical Institute from 1929, the Research Institute of Shipbuilding in Moscow from 1936, the Institute of Theoretical Geophysics of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (AN SSSR) from 1939, the Institute of Automation and Remote Control of the AN SSSR from 1946, and the Institute of Biological Physics of the AN SSSR from 1953.

His major works deal with electronics (controlled gas-discharge and television devices). Kubetskii invented (1930) and built (1934) a photoelectric multiplier (State Prize of the USSR, 1948).
