Leonid Sabaneev

Sabaneev, Leonid Pavlovich

 

Born 1844; died Mar. 25 (Apr. 6), 1898, in Yalta. Russian zoologist

Sabaneev graduated from Moscow University. He studied the game animals of Russia, the hunting economy, and sport fishing. His principal works dealt with the biology of freshwater fish, birds, and mammals and ways of capturing animals. Sabaneev edited and published the journal Priroda (Nature) from 1873 to 1877 and the journal Priroda i okhota (Nature and Hunting) from 1878.
