Knipovich

an underwater mountain range in the Arctic Ocean, extending meridionally; it adjoins the Gakkel’ Range on the north and the Mohn Range on the south. Depths above the Knipovich Range are from 300–400 m to 1,500–2,000 m. The slopes are relatively steep and are covered by silt with varying amounts of clay. The range was discovered by expeditions of the Polar Research Institute of Marine Fisheries and Oceanography (PINRO) in 1960–61; it was named in honor of N. M. Knipovich.
