acetate-CoA ligase

n. See acetyl-CoA synthetase.

acetyl coenzyme A synthetase

An enzyme which catalyses the reaction: ATP + acetate + CoA AMP + pyrophosphate + acetyl-CoA, in which acetate enters metabolic pathways and forms acetyl-CoA.

a·ce·tyl-CoA li·gase

(as'ĕ-til lī'gās) A ligase that catalyzes the reaction of acetate and CoA and ATP to form AMP, pyrophosphate, and acetyl-CoA. A key step in the activation of acetate.
