Aimurzaev, Zholmurza Murzauly

Born 1910. Soviet Kara-Kalpak poet and playwright. Honored Art Worker of the Uzbek SSR. Member of the CPSU since 1946.

Aimurzaev was graduated from the course in advanced literature studies at the Gorky Institute of Literature in 1956. He began publishing his work in 1927; his first collection, Verses, appeared in 1935. His work includes the collections To The Heroic Fight (1942), Torrent (1946), My Heroes (1949), and others, all dealing with the strengthening of Soviet rule in Kara-Kalpakistan; he also wrote Berdakh (1958), a play about a Kara-Kalpak poet, and Aigul’-Abat, a play about revolution. The novel On the Banks of the Amu-Dar’ia (Russian translation, The Pranks of Kamekbai, 1958) is devoted to postwar village life in Kara-Kalpakistan. In 1967, Aimurzaev published an autobiographical novella, The Orphan’s Heart. He has received three orders.
