Ainaži

(previously Hainasch), town in the Limbaži Raion of the Latvian SSR, on the eastern shore of the Gulf of Riga, near the border with the Estonian SSR. Ainaži is a station on a narrow-gauge railroad and has a population of 2,100 (1967). Fisheries are located in Ainazi, and it was a center of the Latvian wooden sailboat industry in the 19th century.
