Ondřejov Astronomical Institute

 

(full name, Ondřejov Astronomical Observatory of the Astronomical Institute of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences), a scientific institution located in Ondřejov, 40 km southeast of Prague.

Founded in 1898 as a private observatory, Ondřejov Astronomical Institute has been under government control since 1928. Its principal instruments include a 65-cm reflector (installed in 1961), a 200-cm reflector (1967), a horizontal solar telescope, a coronagraph, a 10-cm double refractor, and a 7.5-m solar radio telescope. Its research centers on the study of solar activity, meteors, and the earth’s upper atmosphere; on the photoelectric observation of stars; and on the observation of artificial earth satellites.
