 [as´ĕ-test] trademark for a reagent tablet containing sodium nitroprusside, aminoacetic acid, dibasic sodium phosphate, and lactose, turning a purple color in the presence of ketone bodies in urine, blood, plasma, or serum; the intensity of the color reaction indicates the acetoacetate or acetone concentration, ranging from a pale lavender through a dark purple as the concentration increases.
