(lep'tō-sī-tō'sis), The presence of leptocytes in the circulating blood, as in thalassemia, some instances of jaundice (even in the absence of anemia), occasional examples of hepatic disease (in the absence of jaundice), and some patients who have had the spleen removed.

leptocytosis

The condition in which red blood cells are thinner than normal and contain less HAEMOGLOBIN. Leptocytosis is a feature of iron deficiency ANAEMIA, THALASSAEMIA, liver disease and sometimes after SPLENECTOMY.
