Mukhtarov, Gusein

Born July 11, 1914, in Mashhad, Iran. Soviet Turkmen playwright. Member of the CPSU since 1950.

Mukhtarov graduated from the M. Gorky Institute of Literature in 1953. Between 1954 and 1966 he served as chairman of the Union of Cinematographers of the Turkmen SSR and chairman of the Committee on Cinematography of the Council of Ministers of the Turkmen SSR.

Mukhtarov’s works were first published in 1941. His play The Family of Allan (The Honor of the Family; Russian translation, 1949; State Prize of the USSR, 1951) was produced in 1949. His later plays include The Merry Guest (1954; Russian translation, 1955), The Thirties (1958), Who Is a Criminal? (1963), and The Beauty (1972). He has also written opera and ballet librettos and film scenarios. Mukhtarov has been awarded two orders.
