Knorozov, Iurii Valentinovich

 

Born Nov. 19, 1922, in Kharkov. Soviet ethnologist and linguist. Doctor of historical sciences (1955).

Knorozov graduated from Moscow State University in 1948. His research has been devoted to the ethnology of Central America and the study of ancient writing systems, especially that of the Mayan Indians, and also to the problems of semiotics and comparative linguistics.
