Mulgedium

a genus of plants of the family Compositae (it is often classified as a subgenus of the genus Lactuca). The species Mulgedium tataricum (or Lactuca tatarica) is an herbaceous perennial with a well-developed root system. The flowers are dark or light blue; all parts of the plant contain a milky juice. The plant is a troublesome, sucker-forming weed. In the USSR it is distributed predominantly in southern regions of the European USSR and Siberia, in the Caucasus, and in Middle Asia. Control measures include scuffling the stubble two or three times (followed by deep autumn plowing), deep presowing cultivation of the soil (before planting late crops), and application of herbicides.
