a city in Orenburg Oblast, RSFSR. Located on the Bliava River (Ural basin). Railroad station on the Orenburg-Orsk line, 223 km east of Orenburg. Population, 41,000 (1972). Mednogorsk arose in 1939 in connection with the exploitation of the Bliava copper ore deposit and the construction of a copper sulfate combine. The Uralelektromotor Plant, a plant producing reinforced-concrete products, a dairy, and a brewery are located in the city, as well as an industrial technicum and a medical school.
