Louis Paul Boon

Born Mar. 15, 1912, in Aalst. Belgian writer whose works are in Flemish.

Boon began to publish in 1937. The novels The Suburb Is Thriving (1943), Abel Gholaerts (1944), and Forgotten Street (1946) are devoted to the life of the working class. Boon wrote the antiwar lampoon My Little War (1947). The novels Path to the Chapel (1953), Comrades in Arms (1955), and Nothing Disappears (1956) are marked by an anti-bourgeois tendency, but the social theme is expressed less strongly and the emphasis is on striking plots and psy-chologism. Boon also wrote the surrealistic novel The Bird of Paradise (1958).
