offset duplicating

[′ȯf‚set ′dü·plə‚kād·iŋ] (graphic arts) A method of duplicating in which an ink-receptive image is typed or drawn on a paper master or produced photographically on a sensitized metal plate; the master or plate is then placed on the master cylinder of an offset press; the inked image built up on the master is transferred onto a blanket cylinder; the paper picks up the inked image as it passes between the blanket cylinder and an impression cylinder.
