Medvezh’i Islands
islands in the East Siberian Sea, north of the mouth of the Kolyma River, Yakut ASSR. Total area, approximately 60 sq km. Elevations range from 40 to 100 m. The Medvezh’i Islands consist of six small islands: Krestovskii (the largest), Leont’eva, Chetyrekhstolbovoi, Pushkareva, Lysova, and Andreeva. They are composed of granite and argillaceous schist. The banks are primarily rocky and in places are low-lying and marsh-ridden. Off the banks there is a covering of ice one to three months of the year. Rocky arctic tundras and rock streams predominate.
