Many-Plume Moths
Many-Plume Moths
(Orneodidae), a family of insects of the order Lepidoptera. The wings are fan-shaped, with a spread of 12—36 mm; they are divided into lobes (no less than six on each wing). The caterpillars of many-plume moths feed inside young shoots of woody and herbaceous plants. There are approximately 200 species. They are distributed on all continents, but the majority are in the tropics. In the USSR one genus, Orneodes (approximately 15 species), is found in forest and steppe zones. Two of its members, O. hexadactyla and O. dodecadactyla, sometimes damage honeysuckle.
