Nerl’
a river in Yaroslavl, Ivanovo, and Vladimir oblasts, RSFSR, a left tributary of the Kliaz’ma River (Volga River basin). It is 284 km long and drains an area of 6,780 sq km. The Nerl’ is fed chiefly by snow. The mean flow rate 102 km from the mouth is 25.7 cu m per sec. The river freezes in November or December and thaws in April. Its tributaries include the Ukhtoma (on the left).

The Nerl’ originates in Lake Pleshcheevo, where it is called the Veksa-Pleshcheevskaia River. It is fed chiefly by snow. The mean flow rate 55 km from the mouth is 12.8 cu m per sec. The Nerl’ freezes in November and thaws in April.
