MAP3K11

MAP3K11

An oncogene on chromosome 11q13.1-q13.3 that encodes a MAPK kinase kinase belonging to a protein kinase signal transduction cascade. MAP3K11 activates the JUN N-terminal pathway; it is required for serum-stimulated cell proliferation and for mitogen and
cytokine activation of MAPK14/p38, MAPK3/ERK and MAPK8/JNK1, through phosphorylation and activation of MAP2K4/MKK4 and MAP2K7/MKK7. MAP3K11 plays a role in mitogen-stimulated phosphorylation and activation of BRAF; it influences microtubule organisation during the cell cycle, and is expressed in a wide range of benign and malignant tissues.
Each mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway is a conserved cascade of three protein kinases: an activated MAPK kinase kinase (MAPKKK) phosphorylates and activates a specific MAPK kinase (MAPKK), which in turn activates a specific MAPK.
