Kober, Leopold

 

Born Sept. 21, 1883, in Pfaffstätten. Austrian geologist. Professor at the University of Vienna (from 1920).

Kober’s main works have dealt with the tectonic structure of Europe and of the earth as a whole. He is known as a supporter of the contraction hypothesis in its extreme version. He developed the concept of the presence of large overthrust sheets in the Alps.
