Kobzarev, Iurii Borisovich

 

Born Nov. 25 (Dec. 8), 1905, in Voronezh. Soviet scientist in theoretical and applied radio engineering. Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1970; corresponding member, 1953).

Kobzarev graduated from the Kharkov Institute of Public Education (University of Kharkov) in 1926. From 1926 to 1943 he worked as a senior research worker at the Physicotechnical Institute in Leningrad. From 1944 to 1955 he was in charge of a subdepartment at the Moscow Power Engineering Institute. In 1955 he became head of a laboratory and in 1968 head of a department at the Institute of Radio Engineering and Electronics of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR.

Kobzarev has made significant contributions to the development of statistical radio engineering and to the theory of oscillation. He is also the founder of a school of Soviet radar specialists. A recipient of the State Prize of the USSR (1941), he has been awarded two Orders of Lenin and various medals.
