Kochkor Basin
Kochkor Basin
an intermontane basin in the Inner TienShan Range, Kirghiz SSR. The basin is located west of Lake Issyk-Kul, at an altitude of 1,700–2,200 m. It is irrigated by the Chu River. Length, approximately 60 km; width, up to 20 km. There is a semidesert landscape in the middle of the basin with irrigated fields near the Chu River and its sources; the land at the edge of the basin is mountain steppe. The steppe lands are used for pasture. The Ortotokoi reservoir is located to the east of the Kochkor Basin on the Chu River. There are coal deposits.
