MAPK pathway MAPK pathway Mitogen-activated protein kinase pathway. An evolutionarily conserved cascade in which three families of protein kinases act in sequence to effect cell responses to various stimuli. An activated MAPK kinase kinase (MAPKKK) phosphorylates and activates a specific MAPK kinase (MAPKK), which then activates a specific MAPK. ERK MAPKs are activated by mitogenic stimulation; CSBP2 and JNK MAPKs are activated by environmental stress (e.g., osmotic shock, UV irradiation), wound stress and inflammatory factors. |
