Mongolian Redfin

 

(Erythroculter mongolicus), a fresh-water fish of the family Cyprinidae. It measures up to 60 cm long and weighs up to 3.7 kg. In body shape and color it resembles the genus Aspius. It is found in the rivers of Southeast Asia. In the USSR the Mongolian redfin inhabits Lake Khanka and the upper and lower courses of the Amur and Ussuri rivers. It spawns in the spring and early summer. It feeds on small fish. This species has some commercial value. The species Pseudaspius leptocephalus is sometimes erroneously called the Mongolian redfin.
