(1) A faeces-filled rectum in which intrinsic electromechanical activity that would otherwise stimulate the external anal sphincter and puborectalis muscle has ceased. Megarecta are most common in the elderly, and cause constipation.
(2) A term of waning popularity for (toxic) megacolon involving the rectum.
