Koksa Range
Koksa Range
a mountain range in the western Altai, on the border between the Gorno-Altai Autonomous Oblast, RSFSR, and the Vostochnyi Kazakhstan Oblast, Kazakh SSR. The Koksa Range measures 70 km long, with average elevations of 2,000–2,100 m; the highest point is Mount Lineiskii Belok (2,598 m). The range is composed of crystalline metamorphic schists, gneisses, and tufogeneous rocks. There is fir, spruce, and cedar taiga on the northern slopes to an elevation of 1,700–1,800 m; there are meadows of high grass on the southern slopes. Above 1,700–1,800 m is sparse cedar and larch forest, and still higher are subalpine and alpine meadows; above 2,200 m is detritus and lichen tundra.
