Kolesnikov, Ivan Stepanovich
Born Dec. 2 (15), 1901, in the village of Podosinovka, in present-day Novokhopersk Raion, Voronezh Oblast. Soviet surgeon. Academician of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR (1971), Honored Scientist of the RSFSR (1964), major general in the medical service. Member of the CPSU since 1928.
Kolesnikov graduated from the S. M. Kirov Military Medical Academy. He worked in the clinic of S. P. Fedorov and in 1953 became chief of hospital surgical practice there. During the Great Patriotic War of 1941–45 he was an army surgeon and, later, a surgeon at the front. His principal works deal with military field surgery, thoracic surgery, the surgical treatment of tuberculosis, blood transfusion, transplant, and resuscitation. The Manual of Pulmonary Surgery, published in 1969, was edited by Kolesnikov. Kolesnikov was awarded the Lenin Prize (1961), the Order of Lenin, 12 other Orders (including three foreign Orders), and various medals.
