N0008900 (nə-mĭb′ē-ə) Formerly South-West Africa. A country of southwest Africa on the Atlantic Ocean. A German protectorate after 1884, it was occupied in 1915 by South Africa, which governed it under a League of Nations mandate (1920-1946) but refused to accept the United Nations trusteeship that replaced the mandate. In 1990, Namibia achieved full independence. Windhoek is the capital.
