Aage Bohr

Bohr, Aage

Born June 19, 1922, in Copenhagen. Danish physicist. Member of the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters (1955). Son of N. Bohr.

A. Bohr graduated from the University of Copenhagen. In 1946 he joined the staff of the Institute of Theoretical Physics; he was the director of the institute from 1963 to 1972. He is also on the staff of the Nordic Institute for Theoretical Atomic Physics (NORDITA). He was appointed a professor at the University of Copenhagen in 1956.

Bohr’s main works deal with nuclear physics. Together with B. Mottelson, Bohr developed the collective model of the nucleus.

Bohr received a Nobel Prize in 1975. He has been a foreign member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters since 1962, a foreign correspondent of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences since 1965, and a foreign honorary fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences since 1965.
