Leukomaleukoma[lü′kō·mə]Leukomacorneal walleye, cicatricial changes in the cornea that more or less impair its transparency and penetrability by light. Leukoma results from severe inflammations accompanied by severe injury to the corneal tissue or by ulceration (in gonorrhea, trachoma, tuberculosis, syphilis). It may also be a consequence of direct injury to the eye. Less commonly, it is congenital (inflammation during intrauterine development). The affected cornea acquires a characteristic whitish color, and visual acuity is diminished. Treatment involves the use of drugs (Dionin, mercuric ointment), physical therapy (diathermy, electrophoresis with potassium iodide), resorptive agents, tissue therapy, and keratoplasty. leukomaleukoma[loo-ko´mah] (pl. leuko´mata)leu·ko·ma(lū-kō'mă),leu·ko·ma(lū-kō'mă)Synonym(s): leucoma. leukomaleukoma
