Monkey-Eating Eagle

Monkey-Eating Eagle

(Pithecophaga jefferyi), a predatory bird of the family Falconidae. The body is about 90 cm long and weighs about 4.5 kg. The bill is sharply hooked and strongly compressed laterally. There is a tuft on the head. The plumage is brown above and light-colored beneath. The short, broad wings and the long tail facilitate flight in the forest. The monkey-eating eagle is found in tropical forests on the Philippines. It feeds on monkeys, lemurs, squirrels, and, possibly, large birds. The eagle is very rare and is protected.
